Alyssa Fischer-Reeder’s journey is one of resilience, hope, and strength. Diagnosed with stage four tongue cancer at just 22, she endured a grueling 14 ½-hour surgery, followed by months of chemotherapy and radiation. Despite the challenges—including severe side effects, weight loss, and multiple hospitalizations—Alyssa fought to rebuild her life. She returned to school, worked, and embraced a “new normal” with confidence. At 30, she met her husband, Daniel, and built a beautiful life with their two children. However, her battle wasn’t over. Due to complications from past treatments, she required extensive jawbone replacement surgery. The lengthy procedure at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center forced her to relearn how to walk, talk, and eat, but she never lost hope.
Throughout her experiences, Alyssa has remained committed to advocacy. As the founder of the Head and Neck Cancer Fund, she supports patients nationwide, spreading awareness and providing financial assistance. She also worked alongside actor Michael Douglas on a national campaign to promote early cancer screenings.
Alyssa’s message is clear: never give up, and always hold onto hope. With an unbreakable spirit, she continues to inspire others while embracing life’s joys with her family and community.
