I am humbled to share my journey with throat and neck cancer — a path marked by immense challenges and inspiring victories. Recently, I received the reassuring news that my chemotherapy and radiation oncologists have cleared me for the next six months, meaning I won’t need any additional imaging tests such as PET scans, CAT scans, or X-rays during this period. Alongside this positive update, I have two dental appointments scheduled to help maintain my overall health.

One of the most striking changes in my journey has been my physical transformation. Before beginning treatment, I weighed between 195 and 200 pounds; today, I weigh around 170 to 175 pounds. While this change is significant, I feel good overall. My physical therapist recently mentioned that I’m on my way to regaining my physical balance — a testament to the hard work and dedication that continues every day.

However, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. I’ve noticed that my stamina isn’t always there. When cancer treatments target and kill cells, living cells are lost along with the cancer cells. This means that the impact on our body, mind, and spirit can be different for each person. Learning to pace myself and not overextend is now a crucial part of my recovery.

Throughout it all, I have been blessed with constant care through my ohana’s shared spirit of confidence. The love and support of my family have been an unwavering pillar during this time. We all face trials, diseases, mistakes, and regrets in life, but there is a profound power in the pure emotion of being cared for — a beautiful blessing that keeps me moving forward.

I share my story not only as a personal reflection but also in the hope that it brings encouragement and support to anyone facing similar battles. Mahalo.
